In 1748, Rameau produced an opéra-ballet in one act of extraordinary sensitivity: Pygmalion, whose hero, in love with the statue he has sculpted, eventually brings her to life through love.
A decade later in Vienna, Gluck premiered a comic opera in French on an alla turca theme, Le Cadi dupé: in an eastern capital, two lovers want to marry despite the opposition of the Cadi (the mayor and magistrate).
With the help of his cunning servant, they devise schemes to deceive the Cadi, who is thus fooled by disguises and comic mix-ups!
Brought together in one evening through the verve and invention of Jean-Romain Vesperini, two gems of the baroque repertoire, including a hilarious Cadi almost unknown today!
