Totó la Momposina - A family celebration "La Estrella es La Música"

A legend of Colombian music and a passionate ambassador of the sung and danced traditions of the Caribbean coast of her country, Totó La Momposina passed away last May. From the 1980s onwards, Paris was a favourite city for her, where she lived, recorded her first album and set out on a prestigious career. Today Paris pays tribute to her in Aubervilliers by inviting her musicians, friends, family and other heirs to play, sing and dance in order to embody her memory. Totó's former partners, Jorge Aguilar and his group Los Embelecos, and the singer Tato Marenco, of course answer this moving call, as do the Afro-Colombian virtuosos of The Almighty Groove, joined by the Senegalese guitarist Tapha Gaye. And everyone will look on tenderly at Eurídice, Totó's daughter, behind the microphone, and at her grandchildren. More than ever, the key phrase of Totó La Momposina's philosophy, La Estrella es La Música (the star is music), is going to be borne out.

Rumbabierta

The evening is set to be a joyful one because, in addition, the Rumbabierta collective, joined by the incredible Cuban singer and percussionist El Elegante, will bring the irresistible magic of Cuban rumba. A whirlwind, sizzling evening!

With outstanding musicians who are masters of the genre, each Rumbabierta concert is an event of celebration, sharing and joy. Drums, song and dance take centre stage with a repertoire that blends compositions into an authentic Cuban rumba that is groovy and full of colour.
