« Un coin de Paradis » de Josette Baïz Groupe Grenade

Take a dose of contemporary dance, add a pinch of breakdance, spice it with a touch of classical and shake the lot with African dance. The popular show invented by choreographer José Montalvo will be recreated for the talented young dancers of Groupe Grenade, led by Josette Baïz. This show remains a joyfully cross-cultural hymn to good humour.

Its creation almost thirty years ago was a revolution. The flagship work of a duo trained in both classical and contemporary dance and curious about urban dance, “Paradis” by Montalvo-Hervieu has become the XXL manifesto of diversity in styles, bodies, music and aesthetics.

Its whimsical, humorous world, inspired by the art of collage and surprise, has struck a chord with audiences of every kind, touching “the child that each of us carries within”.

The recreation of this colourful, tender Eden by Groupe Grenade seems an obvious choice: the group was also born in 1997, in the northern districts of Marseille. Made up solely of young dancers, children and teenagers, it develops a choreographic language that transcends borders.

In 2026, its director Josette Baïz therefore wanted to bring back to life a cult show that echoes her own approach, and whose message of joyful brotherhood is more necessary than ever.

As a wink to the audience, the recreation includes video extracts of the original performers, a companionable way of celebrating the double anniversary of a key moment in dance.
