Overview
With this first production, Wim Vandekeybus unleashed a genuine artistic storm. Joined by the composers Thierry de Mey and Pierre Vermeersch, he received the prestigious Bessie Award in New York in 1988 for this "brutal clash of dance and music". It is not an ordinary performance but rather a raw physical experience, balanced on a razor's edge between attraction and repulsion. The ten performers move at breathtaking speed, reacting instinctively to one another and to the music. What the Body Does Not Remember reveals the essence of instinctive reflexes, rooted in the raw reality of existence, and laid the foundations for Vandekeybus's singular language.
