L’Omelette aux champignons

A business dinner in a bobo-woke family running a sex toy factory turns into farce under the effect of a hallucinogenic mushroom! True to their taste for burlesque and subversion, the duo Claire & Mélanie delivers a joyfully corrosive political satire, drawing on the codes of boulevard theatre.

Running Moulisex, a company specialising in hand-moulded latex sex toys, are Mélanie, an ambitious CEO, and her partner Claire, a left-wing heiress in charge of the “well-being and care” department. The couple invites a lobbyist-startupper who holds a patent for an organic sex toy, and his wife, a senator with a touch of conservatism, to a decisive dinner for the future of the struggling company. But the omelette served that evening, a little too special, is about to blow apart what remains of the masks, the couples, the progressive certainties and the power relations. With this hallucinatory farce, inspired by the famous play Potiche, Claire Lapeyre-Mazérat and Mélanie Martinez-Llense paint a portrait of a well-meaning woke petite bourgeoisie, caught between its ambitions and its contradictions, that is as funny as it is lucid. Somewhere between Judith Butler and Les Bronzés, this creation promises a joyful reflection on our times. L'Omelette aux champignons is served. Bon appétit!

Irony is praised on all sides. It can make people laugh and think at the same time. By playing on effects of mention and echo, it allows, for example, dominant discourses to be critically reconsidered. But how far is this critical speech political? Does it help to bind a political community together, or rather to sustain certain prejudices in the comfort of being among one's own? Is it an instrument of emancipation capable of overturning hierarchies, or the expression of a privilege (gendered, literate, etc.)?
