Guitar Concertos
Both virtuosic and lyrical, Heitor Villa-Lobos's Concerto for Guitar and Small Orchestra, composed in 1951, is considered one of the greatest guitar concertos in the repertoire. The richness of this great Brazilian composer's musical personality, notably characterised by a very profound melodic sense combined with a certain rhythmic primitivism that brings him closer to Stravinsky, is expressed here with particular acuity and a unique spirit.
Rodrigo's Concierto de Aranjuez (1939) evokes the gardens of the Royal Palace of Aranjuez, near Madrid, in a dancing and melancholic music that has become emblematic of Spain. Turina completes this programme with Spanish colours, between refinement and intensity.
