About — The artist
Placebo is a British alternative rock band from London, England. It was formed in 1994 by Brian Molko and Stefan Olsdal, who were first joined by Robert Schultzberg until 1996, then Steve Hewitt until 2007, and Steve Forrest until 2015.
Placebo's music and lyrics stand out for their heightened romantic streak. Once paired with a provocative, excessive imagery that fuelled the band's edgy reputation, this exuberant romanticism has since settled into a more introspective attitude. Having gradually shifted their image and sound, the band could be associated with punk rock in their early days, then with alternative rock and power pop.
Placebo gained international recognition, having sold, as of 2011, more than eleven million albums worldwide, and are known to the wider public for tracks such as Nancy Boy, Pure Morning, Every You Every Me, Special K, The Bitter End, Protège-moi, Meds and Song to Say Goodbye, as well as covers such as Johnny and Mary (Robert Palmer) or Running Up that Hill (Kate Bush).
The band's eighth album, Never Let Me Go, was released on 25 March 2022. The first single, Beautiful James, came out on 17 September 2021.
