A "monster" piece conceived as a repertoire of choreographed gestures, Boris Charmatz's work never ceases to unfold its charms, between the past and present of dance. 10000 gestes is a constellation of bodies with infinite contours. Ten years after its Berlin premiere, this "forest of gestures" has lost none of its power.

400 unique instructions per performer, none of them reproducible. Starting from this scheme, Boris Charmatz has imagined a "forest of gestures" carried by a community of dancers with a sensitive commitment.

10000 gestes is a unique adventure, a kind of bubbling of choreographic ideas that carries the spectator away. For Charmatz, it is a matter of paying tribute to the impermanence of an art as much as to the strength of bodies on stage, here some twenty performers.

"It will be a matter of exploring the possibilities that a gesture is never performed by another, and that if 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 25 dancers come into contact, each nevertheless performs a gesture differentiated from the other's, excluding any symmetrical movement: in this piece, it is impossible to shake hands," sums up the choreographer.

This collection, performed live and in which each performance is unique, belongs to an artistic journey where the past feeds the present of creation.

Boris Charmatz has thus "occupied" museums, choreographed the city, and reconnected with the ancestral forms of the round dance and the circle. With each of his proposals, he puts his know-how back into play. In his eyes, 10000 gestes is a rain of movements. A dance without end.
