Ballet Prejlocaj

Here he composes a diptych that sets an emblematic piece created in 2001 to the music of Karlheinz Stockhausen in dialogue with a new creation drawing on the electronic universe of Laurent Garnier.

Helikopter is born from the choreographer's artistic shock in the face of the dizzying score of this string quartet playing in mid-flight aboard four helicopters. By transposing onto the stage this tension between instrumental virtuosity and technological vertigo, he pays tribute to Stockhausen's constant invention and to his capacity to push the limits of creation ever further. As a counterpoint comes Licht, a piece with a more fluid and sunlit writing, like a passage from shadow to clearing. Carried by the music of Laurent Garnier, regarded here as an heir to Stockhausen's sonic explorations, Licht extends this lineage by opening a sensitive, contemporary space. In this powerful diptych, Preljocaj sketches a metaphor for our time: crossed by anxieties and tensions, yet always turned towards the light.
