For her latest creation, Marina Otero delivers a shattering piece. She plunges us into a physical and irreverent theatre that rebels against injustice, with humour and cynicism in equal measure. Pulling no punches, she blends the intimate with the political and confronts love with History.

From a love affair to a thwarted love, the Argentine artist questions colonialism, guilt and the need to challenge what lives within her: her Westernised gaze, her illusions of redemption and her thirst to save the other. Everything begins with a plan of mutual rescue. Faced with loneliness, Marina Otero sets out for Tangier intending to save a man by marrying him and giving him papers and a life in Europe. From this story, she aspires to create a work of autofiction; but her encounter with Ayoub upends everything. The abstract idea of a mutual salvation project shatters on contact with reality and gives way to a show in which the intimate story is compounded by a radical social denunciation. Marina Otero chooses to name her show AYOUB, a first name very common in the Islamic world and borne by hundreds of children killed by the Zionist State of Israel in Gaza. AYOUB thus becomes the symbol of a reality marked by violence and suffering in Palestine, drawing a parallel between a personal history and a collective tragedy. Marina Otero tells the story of a thwarted love affair in Tangier, jolted by Gaza, colonialism and what a first name can carry. Alongside Ibrahim Ibnou Goush, the Argentine artist, who is based in Madrid, creates her most political work, without giving up the shamelessness that defines her. Magisterial.
