Overview

Can we continue to admire a work when its author is accused, implicated, or convicted of sexual violence? What should we do with Roman Polanski's films, Bertrand Cantat's songs, Céline's writings, or the works of so many other artists whose actions now challenge our perspective?

With Faut-il séparer l’homme de l’artiste? ), director Étienne Gaudillère and journalist Giulia Foïs tackle one of the most pressing questions of our time.

Born in the wake of the upheavals caused by , this hybrid show blends journalistic investigation, documentary theatre, personal narratives, humour, and collective reflection.

Drawing on facts, figures, high-profile cases, and intimate questions, the artists explore the contradictions that run through our societies. Should we distinguish the work from its creator? Can artistic genius mitigate the seriousness of acts committed?

How do we now view a cultural heritage built, at times, in the shadow of long-silenced violence? These are all questions that demand moving beyond ready-made answers to embrace the complexity of reality.

On stage, Giulia Foïs doesn't just bring her expertise as a journalist and committed author: she takes part in the debate, confronts facts with narratives, and embodies her own voice.

Alongside Étienne Gaudillère, she transforms the stage into a space where journalistic inquiry meets theatre to illuminate one of the most sensitive questions of our era.

At the Théâtre de la Concorde, in a month dedicated to courage, this show resonates with an essential question: what courage does it take to look differently at the works we love, to hear long-suppressed voices, and to accept shifting our certainties?

Between public debate and intimate experience, Faut-il séparer l’homme de l’artiste? reminds us that courage isn't always about being right, but sometimes about accepting to question what we thought was established.
