Festin Symphonique

ORCHESTRE DE L'OPÉRA DE MASSY A PROGRAMME ON THE THEME OF CHILDHOOD, FEATURING ESSENTIAL WORKS BY SCHUBERT, ROUSSEL AND BIZET. Franz Schubert, primarily known for his lieder, also composed ten symphonies. His Third Symphony, though the work of a composer just 18 years old, is already highly accomplished both harmonically and in its use of the colours of the Romantic orchestra. This first part will be followed by Albert Roussel's most famous work, Le Festin de l’Araignée. This ballet-pantomime focuses on the arrival of insects serving as a meal for the famous arachnid. Bizet and his small suite from Jeux d’enfants will conclude this concert. In the orchestration of this suite, composed shortly before the arrival of his first child, Bizet displays true goldsmith's talent.
