Everyone knows Roméo et Juliette as a great love story between two people from rival families, a family hatred that will ultimately destroy the lovers in terrible violence. It is a passionate play about two beings who confuse love and desire, love and passion, and which warns us not to entrust love with what it cannot bear. But it is also a play about the magnificent impatience of youth, and its capacity to believe in its wildest dreams and utopias. Following the success of Richard III, staged at the Opéra de Massy, Guillaume Séverac-Schmitz continues his dialogue with Shakespeare by tackling Roméo et Juliette. True to his generous and spectacular theatrical style, he reveals the full modernity of this work where youth rises against the violence of the world and dares to believe in the impossible.
