Le Barbier de Séville

An opera buffa from the lyric repertoire, staged at the Opéra de Massy, in the town of Massy (Essonne), as part of its lyric programming.

The Barber of Seville belongs to opera and the lyric genre. It is a sung comedy following a young count who is smitten with Rosina, a young woman placed under the guardianship of Bartolo, a jealous guardian. With the help of Figaro, the resourceful barber of the town, he tries to meet her despite the surveillance surrounding her. The plot multiplies disguises and mistaken identities.

On stage, the cast sings and acts out a brisk action, in which the comedy arises as much from the acting as from the music. The show appeals as much to opera regulars as to audiences discovering the genre, thanks to a story that is easy to follow and a wealth of situations.

The Opéra de Massy hosts this performance as part of its lyric programming. The venue, based in Massy, thus offers an accessible evening of opera, where the words, the singing and the plot respond to one another from beginning to end.
