Bach & Mendelssohn : le romantisme à l'école du baroque
In the nineteenth century, Felix Mendelssohn played a decisive role in the rediscovery of the work of Johann Sebastian Bach, whose mastery of counterpoint, balance of forms and spiritual force he deeply admired. This artistic lineage left a lasting mark on his musical language and nourished a large part of his sacred output. By placing pages by Bach and Mendelssohn side by side, this programme reveals the fruitful dialogue between two eras of German musical history. Alongside the cantatas and choruses of the Cantor of Leipzig, the motets and sacred works of his Romantic heir resound, in which the rigour of baroque writing combines with a new sensitivity. An encounter between tradition and renewal, carried by a shared quest for spiritual elevation and musical beauty.
