Beethoven, La Pastorale - Orchestre Colonne

BEETHOVEN, THE PASTORAL - ORCHESTRE COLONNE Line-up: Conductor: Félix Benati Orchestre Colonne Pre-concert talk: Julie Terranti Programme: BEETHOVEN: Pastoral Symphony MANOUKIAN: Ode à la vie HOLMÈS: La Nuit et L'Amour L'INVITATION AU VOYAGE: A mystery work to discover during this concert Can a single evening celebrate Beethoven, unveil a brand-new creation, rediscover a forgotten work, and let itself be surprised by a musical mystery?

That's the challenge of this programme. In Beethoven's Symphony No.

6 "Pastoral", whose bicentenary of his death we mark this year, the composer expresses the feelings stirred by the landscape: the murmur of a stream, the rustic dance of a village festival, the sudden crack of a storm, and then serenity regained.

To witness a world premiere is to share the thrill of a first breath, that moment when a work is born before our very ears. For this new composition titled "Ode à la vie", Alexandre Manoukian illustrates nature and climate issues through his music.

In counterpoint, Augusta Holmès's La Nuit et l'Amour unfolds the ardour of a blazing romanticism. Taken from Ludus pro Patria, this piece opens the season dedicated to Holmès, whose work as a composer will be celebrated throughout the year.

A daring composer, Holmès turns night into a vibrant theatre: the shadows pulse with burning desire, the strings murmur, the winds sigh, and the orchestra catches fire in a vast lyrical surge.

A touch of mystery will punctuate this programme: L'Invitation au voyage, a work whose identity will only be revealed after it is heard. A surprise extending the concert into this nature-inspired world. La Seine Musicale does not allow children under 3 into the auditorium.
