Gaby lives a happy childhood in Burundi, between a French father and a Rwandan mother. But in 1993, his parents' separation coincides with the start of the civil war that will lead to the genocide of the Tutsis. In 2016, Gaël Faye's first novel approached History through narrative. To adapt this searing text with the complicity of its author, Frédéric Fisbach and Dida Nibagwire invite Rwandan and Burundian performers to summon memory and make heard the reality of the reconstruction of their country. Blending speech, song and dance, Gahugu Gato (Petit Pays) questions the possibility of living together again. Designed to be performed outdoors, the show has been staged in Rwanda, in Kigali and then in the hills where the genocide began, whose thirtieth commemoration took place in April 2024.
