About — The artist
Marion Rampal, born on September 8, 1980, in Marseille, is a French singer-songwriter and jazz vocalist. She performs a wide and varied repertoire, ranging from her own compositions (with Main Blue, Anne Paceo on drums, and Pierre-François Blanchard on piano and Fender Rhodes), through jazz and blues rooted in tradition (as a sidewoman for saxophonist Archie Shepp, for example), to classical music pieces (on Bye Bye Berlin with the Quatuor Manfred, or on Le Secret with Pierre-François Blanchard).
The uniqueness of her expressive style, combining these diverse influences and techniques, is highlighted by critics. Louis-Julien Nicolaou, a journalist for Les Inrocks, wrote of her: « No school, no teacher will ever teach you to sing like Marion Rampal does. Her blues is extraterrestrial, her Africanity white, her femininity male, her style uniquely her own ».
