Overview
Beauty and sensuality run through the album Song for Abbey, which Marion Rampal devoted to the immense Abbey Lincoln. This delicate tribute, paid by one of our most gifted jazzwomen to her elder, heralds an exceptional concert, moving and enchanting.
One can easily imagine Abbey Lincoln herself in the audience, touched to hear her music reinterpreted with such sensitivity. The concert offers a precious opportunity to rediscover a major figure in the heritage of jazz, both an inspired performer and an unforgettable composer.
Also an actress, activist and educator, Abbey Lincoln (1930-2010) revealed her talents as a songwriter late in life through a series of deeply personal albums, which left a lasting mark on the young Marion Rampal.
Today recognised as one of the great voices of francophone jazz, Marion Rampal revisits the works of the American artist's late career, when she was at the height of her art (and who performed at the time on the main stage of the T/SQY).
Acclaimed by critics, Song for Abbey celebrates the free and unruly spirit of the woman who inspired it
