About — The artist
Gabriel Fauré, born on 12 May 1845 in Pamiers, in the Ariège, and who died on 4 November 1924 in Paris, was a French composer, organist, pianist and music teacher.
A pupil of Saint-Saëns and Gustave Lefèvre at the École Niedermeyer, he was first choirmaster at the church of the Madeleine in Paris. He later served as its organist, holding the post of titular organist of the great organ. He was then appointed professor of composition at the Paris Conservatoire, and subsequently director of the institution from 1905 to 1920.
He is one of the greatest French composers of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
