About — The artist
Lio, born Vanda Maria Ribeiro Furtado Tavares de Vasconcelos, on 17 June 1962 in Mangualde (Portugal), is a French-speaking Portuguese-Belgian singer and actress. She is the half-sister of singer Helena Noguerra.
She is particularly known for her songs Le Banana split (1979), Amoureux solitaires (1980), Tétèoù? a duet with Jacky (1984), Les brunes comptent pas pour des prunes (1986) and Fallait pas commencer (1986).
From the 1980s onward, her career as a film and television actress allowed her to play both dramatic and lighter roles. In film, several directors, including Chantal Akerman, Catherine Breillat, Diane Kurys, Marion Vernoux and Aline Issermann, gave her leading roles.
Lio also appeared in less well-known, more dramatic films such as Chambre à part in 1989, Jalousie in 1991 and Sans un cri the same year, before featuring in several hits such as Mariages! by Valérie Guignabodet, Les Invisibles by Thierry Jousse and, playing herself as a singer, in Stars 80 and its sequel Stars 80, la suite. On television, she notably appeared in C'est la vie, camarade! and Colette, une femme libre, in 2003.
